2021 Summer Piano Class

This summer class is set up in an independent-study format. That is, students will attend the class simultaneously but will work independently at their own pace. Students will have their own keyboard and headphone which means students of any level can participate whether they are a brand new beginner or have had some lessons already in the past.

Two instructors will rotate every few minutes between each student so every student still receives approximately 20-30 minutes of teacher help time while getting practice time in-between. This format can help students progress quickly as they can practice immediately following feedback.

FAQ’s

How do lessons work? Students come twice a week (Mondays & Wednesdays) for 1-hour (1:30 pm – 2:30 pm); There are 8 lessons scheduled between June 7 – June 30.

Are there any performances? No, not for this class.

Who can sign up? The class is designed for students entering grades 6-12. The student should be someone who can work independently and is motivated to learn piano on their own.

What if we can’t make a lesson? The tuition structure takes into account that the student will miss one out of the eight lessons. Otherwise, due to the nature of the class setup, there are no makeup lessons if you cannot make a class time.

Cost? $215 flat rate (includes materials; no additional registration fee). Payment is due by June 1 (details in the registration form linked below).

What if I want to continue lessons following the class? This is a one-off class opportunity. Although it’s possible a similar class may continue (if there is enough interest in the fall), there is no guarantee another one will be offered. Also, please note that Studio 88 does not have open spots for students to continue in private lessons this fall following the class.

Student Piano Lessons

Piano lessons for students are scheduled weekly throughout the school year with Summer lessons being optional.

Through Amy’s well-rounded musical approach, students learn quickly from the start. A variety of individual, buddy, and group instruction throughout the year means students are able to learn at their own pace, becoming independent learners and thinkers while also getting peer interaction.

Always utilizing up-to-date teaching practices and technology in the studio, assignments and practice tools such as audio and video recordings are provided to assist students in their practice at home throughout the week.

FAQ’s

How do lessons work? Students come once a week for a 40-minute solo lesson or 75-minute “buddy” lesson (two students simultaneously). The best fit will be determined by the teacher. Offerings may vary slightly from year to year. (Some years, additional group classes may be offered either in addition to or in lieu of the weekly lesson.)

Are there any performances? Yes, students are offered several opportunities throughout the year. These include Christmas performances, a Spring recital, and occasional nursing home or other performances.

What if we can’t make a lesson? The tuition structure takes into account that both teacher and student may miss one lesson during the school term without reschedule. Due to the teacher’s limited availability, additional requests to reschedule lessons will be considered, but are not guaranteed. Last-minute/day-of cancellations may be forfeited. Lessons via Zoom or Facetime are available if the student is not feeling well, the weather outside is not safe, or a worldwide pandemic occurs(!).

Cost? Tuition is charged as an annual fee and is generally between $1,250-$1,350 for the school-year term (Aug/Sept-May). Variances may occur depending on the number of weeks on the studio calendar as well as other factors that can vary from year to year. Payment options are available.
[In addition, there is an annual $90 registration/materials fee.]

Adult Piano Lessons

Do you regret not learning the piano growing up or wish your parents wouldn’t have let you quit as a child?

Piano lessons are a wonderful blessing for many adults whether you’re looking to simply play for fun, keep your mind active, or pull out the old piano tunes you love so well.

To allow flexibility in adult schedules, lessons are offered in an à la carte format. You will attend once a week for six weeks at a time. After that, you can choose to continue for another six or call it good!

FAQ’s

How do lessons work? Students come once a week for a 40-minute private lesson.

Do I have to perform? Nope! Adult students are not expected to perform in any recitals but certainly would be allowed if interested.

What if I can’t make a lesson? You have 8 weeks to complete the 6 lessons, giving you a couple of weeks of flexibility to miss if needed.

Cost? $250 (Fee includes all materials; no additional registration fee.)

Ukulele Lessons

Studio 88 offers beginner Ukulele lessons only. Ukulele is an easy and “portable” way to have fun with music!

Lessons are set up in an à la carte format. Students attend once a week for 6 weeks at a time. Many students find they learn enough basics to enjoy playing tons of tunes they know in just 6-12 weeks!

Due to the nature of the fine motor skills required of the fingers to play Uke, it is recommended students be in at least 3rd grade.

FAQ’s

How do lessons work? Students come once a week for a 30-minute private lesson.

Do I provide my own Uke? Yes. There are several types of Ukulele’s but you will want a “concert” or “soprano”. My preference is the concert Uke because they’re a little larger and have a warmer sound than the soprano. Here’s my favorite Ukulele on Amazon*. It has a great sound, is a good price, and comes with a case.

Anything else? Two things. First, consider getting one with a case for safe transport to lessons and storage at home. Second, will need a tuner easily available. You can either get the kind that clips onto the Ukulele or, if your student has access to a device when playing, simply download the free Guitar Tuna app.

What if I can’t make a lesson? You have 8 weeks to complete the 6 lessons, giving you a couple of weeks of flexibility to miss if needed.

Cost? $195 (Fee includes all materials; no additional registration fee.)
